VOST Europe participated in the third EU-HYBNET Gaps and Needs event on March 28th, 2023. The event, organised by the European Network of practitioners for prevention and mitigation of hybrid threats, brought together experts from various fields to discuss the challenges and opportunities of hybrid warfare in the digital age.
VOST Europe was part of the Information and Strategic Communication subgroup, where the main discussion topics were the connection between disinformation and artificial intelligence (AI) in the hybrid threats landscape.
The subgroup discussed how disinformation campaigns can exploit AI to create and disseminate content that can create vulnerabilities but also explored how AI can be used to detect and counter disinformation, as well as to enhance strategic communication and public awareness. VOST Europe shared its experience and expertise in the field of disinformation and monitoring.
Just as yesterday an open letter, by the Future of Life Institute, calling for a six-month pause on AI experiments that should be developed only once we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable, and recommends that AI labs should use this time to collectively develop safety protocols that can be audited by third parties, the themes discussed couldn’t be more actual and pressing.
VOST Europe believes that AI can be a force for good if it is developed and used responsibly, transparently and ethically. VOST Europe also recognises the potential dangers of AI if it is misused or abused by malicious actors. Therefore, VOST Europe calls for a balanced approach that fosters innovation while ensuring safety and accountability.
VOST Europe is proud to be part of the EU-HYBNET community and looks forward to continuing its collaboration with other partners in addressing the hybrid threats of our time. VOST Europe invites anyone who is interested in joining this network to to so, by clicking on this link
